Challenge

A pickup with no lineage to lean on

VinFast had four models on the road, all crossovers, and no truck. The VF Wild needed to establish pickup credibility from a standing start, in a segment where buyers expect decades of towing and payload pedigree behind a badge. [NEED: confirm segment positioning claims before publishing]

Concept to show car in six months

Gomotiv, our automotive studio, worked directly with VinFast's design leadership to develop the exterior and interior concepts and take the vehicle to CES as a complete show car. A power-folding midgate extends the bed from five to eight feet automatically when the rear seats fold down, a detail we treated as the vehicle's functional signature rather than an add-on feature.

Outcome

The VF Wild debuted at CES 2024 with the largest bed in its segment and a cabin built around a single central display. It went on to win Best Concept Commercial EV.

The challenge for Outerspace’s Gomotiv team was to deliver on these aesthetic requirements, whilst engineering the fundamental functional components without compromising occupant packaging or program timing. Multiple design options were compared simultaneously in VR.

With a goal of disrupting the segment, the Wild was launched with great success at CES, showcasing Vinfast’s commitment to automotive innovation. From sketch to running concept completed in under 12 months, GoMotiv’s close agile collaboration with Vinfast set new standards for delivering speed to market.
