Challenge
Clinical complexity to everyday accessibility
Scleral lens fitting is life-changing for patients with corneal disease, but it has stayed locked behind costly devices and a slow manual process of trial and error. Outerspace helped Medmont integrate much-needed scleral topography into their existing Meridia platform without adding bulk, sacrificing accuracy, or relying on a fixation target that distressed patients can't hold.
Small-cone optics & ergonomic logic
Outerspace designed a compact optical cone that delivers wide-coverage corneo-scleral mapping in a tight housing. An ambidextrous headrest and single-handed joystick with palm support let practitioners hold a patient's eyelid open and capture data unassisted.
Outcome
Vantage extends mapping beyond the cornea to the whites of the eye, achieving some of the highest first-fit success rates in specialty lensing while reducing patient chair time and material waste. While maintaining TGA, FDA and CE certification, and a clinical lifespan exceeding five years.
Technical Insights:
Optical & imaging
Compact-cone architecture, automated corneo-scleral topography, single-shot and multi-map capture
Industrial design
Matte-black cone to reduce patient anxiety, headrest modelled on a cradling hand, on-brand Meridia styling
Mechanical engineering
Aluminium chassis, concealed X-Y cable routing, modular architecture for rapid servicing
Embedded software
Medmont Studio integration, in-house and third-party export pathways, Quick Key console controls
Client & field collaboration
Shared 3D CAD workflow with Medmont, field research and iterative prototyping through to production
Verification & compliance
ISO certification, TGA / FDA / CE approval, IEC 60601-1 compliance

"The Medmont Meridia Vantage has become an essential part of my clinical workflow. It has reduced the number of trial lenses I need for sclerals, allows me to clearly monitor ortho-k treatment patterns, and provides objective imaging for dry eye that makes patient education much easier. It's reliable, intuitive to use, and has genuinely elevated the level of care I'm able to provide."
