OKTI Mobile EEG
OKTI Mobile EEG
Standard EEG testing tethers patients, often children, to 74 wires for hours in one room. Outerspace packed that same electronics into a small case with illuminated connectors and child-friendly detailing, folding three devices into one.

Challenge
74 wires and a frightened patient
Standard EEG testing tethers patients to bulky equipment confined to a single room, for hours at a time. For children especially, the process itself becomes a barrier to diagnosis. Compumedics needed a high-density EEG system patients could wear and move in, combining what had previously been three separate devices into one.
Housing complex electronics for fast, fearless setup
We packed a powerful battery, complex electronics and up to 74 connector wires into a small, protective case designed for rapid clinical setup. Illuminated connectors guide accurate electrode placement, and quick-swap batteries keep sessions running without interruption. For younger patients, we softened every edge and added child-friendly details, including a companion octopus toy, to turn a stressful procedure into something closer to play.
Outcome
Okti became the world's first fully mobile high-density EEG system, certified to CE, Class IIb, FDA and IEC 60601 standards. It won a Good Design Award, with the jury citing its ability to reduce fear and stigma around EEG testing while delivering data quality that previously required a fixed room.
Technical Insights:
Industrial design (Creativity)
Soft-edged, child-friendly form combining three prior devices into one mobile system
Electronic engineering (Capability)
High-density 74-connector wiring and battery system housed in a compact protective case
Mechanical engineering (Capability)
Quick-swap battery and secure locking system rated for impact, hospital cleaning agents and fire resistance
Clinical usability (Clarity)
Illuminated connectors for fast, accurate electrode placement under time pressure

Okti gives patients with epilepsy and brain disorders freedom of movement and dignity while vital diagnostic data is recorded. The design reduces anxiety and discomfort often associated with EEG monitoring.
In a nutshell, clinics gain a compact and cost-effective EEG solution that prioritizes flexibility and safety while ensuring compliance is never compromised.
